Even though Baker Sheet Metal Corporation fabricates many styles and shapes of interior doors, they all fall into two categories:
Flush Panel (MSC, USCG & Commercial Vessels) or Extruded Aluminum (U.S. Navy Ships)
Flush Panel Doors are flat on both sides and look much like any door you might see in a commercial building. We make them of steel, aluminum, or stainless steel.
Extruded Aluminum Doors are the most common on Navy Vessels and are not flat on both sides. They are recessed at the top and at the bottom for the kick-out safety panel. These doors are distinguished and ordered by their alphabetic letter designation.

Simplified Door Buyer's Guide
1. What style of door?
Flush panel or extruded?
2. What shape of door?
Square corners or radiuses?
Extruded Doors
Square corner = Doors A thru N
Radius corner = Doors P thru S
3. What size door?
Door size can be determined in any one of the following three ways:
A. Clear Opening
The most common way to determine size. The clear opening is the smallest opening of the frame. For example: A "Type A" door has a standard clear opening of 26" x 66". If a block of wood is 26" x 66" x 10' long, you could pass it through an "A" door frame.
B. Actual Door Size
Measure the door itself without the frame.
C. Bulkhead Opening
Measure the width and the length of the cut-out in the bulkhead.
4. What hand is the door... right or left?
The easiest way to determine the hand of the door is to open the door and straddle the threshold with one foot inside the compartment and one foot in the hall while you are facing the door. If the door is on your right side, then it is a right-hand door.

Navy Interior Doors Info
Buying new or replacement doors has always been somewhat confusing. With so many sizes, shapes, and configurations, who could keep track? Then, in 1987, the problem was compounded when a new drawing was issued to supersede the thirty or so that had originally depicted metal joiner doors. All the letter designations had changed, even though the doors had not! The new drawing, 804-5959320, is now the Navy standard, and as such, is the reference for our catalogue.
As joiner door experts, we feel the need to simplify the often-confusing task of ordering doors. We developed our "Simplified Door Buyer's Guide" to aide you in your door selection.
